North India is bracing for intense rainfall in the coming days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alerts for heavy to extremely heavy rain across multiple states. Some regions are likely to witness torrential downpours accompanied by strong winds, while others face a heightened risk of floods and landslides. If you are in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, or Northeast India, extra caution is advised. The weather is expected to shift dramatically, with conditions turning far from normal.

Extremely Heavy Rainfall Threat in Uttarakhand:

On August 11 and 13, several parts of Uttarakhand are expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall. River water levels in the hill districts may rise significantly, increasing the risk of landslides. The IMD has urged residents to avoid non-essential travel and remain in safe locations during this period.

Heavy Showers for Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh & Rajasthan:

  • Jammu & Kashmir: Heavy rainfall is forecast between August 13 and 15.
  • Himachal Pradesh: Rainfall is expected to continue from August 11 to 17, with very heavy rain likely in many areas between August 11–14.
  • Eastern Rajasthan: Showers are expected between August 15 and 17, which could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas.

Rainfall Spell for Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi & Uttar Pradesh:

• Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi: Showers are expected on August 11, with another spell likely from August 13 to 15.
• Uttar Pradesh: Heavy rainfall is predicted in several districts from August 11 to 15.

o Western UP: Very heavy rain warnings for August 11, 13, and 14.
o Eastern UP: Very heavy rainfall is expected on August 13 and 14.

Steady Monsoon Showers in Northeast India:

  • Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura: Light to moderate rain, along with thunderstorms and lightning, is expected from August 11 to 15.
  • Special Warning: On August 11, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam–Meghalaya are under a very heavy rainfall alert. Thunderstorms and lightning are likely over the next three days, so residents should remain vigilant and take safety precautions.
